On the fifth anniversary of the passing of the Kurdish leader and first elected president of Iraq, Jalal Talabani, PUK politburo issued a statement, calling all sides to practise the Talabani's wisdom and principles of coexistence in order to solve the political crises.
The statement said, "Five years ago, the Kurdish people and all Iraqis lost a leader who struggled for more than half a century for liberation and democracy. The President Jalal Talabani, known as Mam Jalal, had been struggling for more than sixty years to prove and achieve the national and democratic rights of the Kurdish people and to implement the choice of democracy, justice and freedom of life in Iraq."
It added, "President Mam Jalal's years of experience in diplomatic struggle, from the history of modern Kurds to the liberal struggles of the nations of the region, was a rare picture of relations at the level of the nations of the East and the West and reaffirmed the solid foundation of these diplomatic achievements, the validity and originality of the Kurdish issue in the Middle East."
It further added, "At the end of his political life, President Mam Jalal from the position of constitutional lawyer had always been a point of agreement and maintaining balance, but today, after a year in the Iraqi parliamentary elections and the conditions of stagnating the political process in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, president Mam Jalal's worldview need to be reaffirmed more than ever on the basis of agreement, partnership, and cooperation between political forces and parties. And these principles should be used to guide the crisis to solve the country's problems and to form an active government in which serving citizens and improving their lives would be its top priority task.
Today, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) led by Bafel Jalal Talabani, is the initiative and staunch advocate of this principle of compromise and coexistence. On the anniversary of the farewell of immortal President Mam Jalal, we remind all sides that today more than ever, our union, our people, and the democratic path of the region and Iraq in particular, need the wisdom, experience, and worldview of President Mam Jalal to benefit from the wisdom so as to get out of the obstacles and crises, because Talabani's path and worldview are a political culture and a wealthy revolutionary inheritance which all sides can learn from it."
