U.S Department of State calls on Khor Mor Attacks as ‘unacceptable violence’

The U.S. Department of State has condemned the attacks on Khor Mor In a statement on Sunday saying, we continue to stand with our partners in the Kurdistan Region, against this kind of unacceptable violence.

“The United States stands with our partners in condemnation of the repeated rocket and mortar attacks directed at the Kurdistan Region, including three attacks in Sulaimani in the last four days on oil and gas infrastructure,” spokesperson of the United States Department of State Ned Price said in the statement.

“These attacks are designed to undermine economic stability just as they seek to challenge Iraqi sovereignty, sow division, and intimidate. They must be investigated and those responsible must be prosecuted” he said.

“We continue to stand with the Iraqi people, including our partners in the Kurdistan Region, against this kind of unacceptable violence, and we will continue to seek every opportunity to support Iraq’s security and prosperity.” He added.

Rocket and drone attacks have become more frequent in recent months, Oil and gas facilities in Iraqi Kurdistan have been attacked several times. Since last week’s Wednesday three rocket attacks have struck Khor Mor gas field in Chamchamal district of Sulaimani province in which United Arab Emirates company energy company (Dana gas) operates.

Khor Mor gas facility is one of the largest gas projects in the Kurdistan Region and produces around 452 million cubic feet per day of gas, categorized as the Region’s key gas field.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region’s key gas field. However, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has previously claimed responsibility for some of the attacks.
