Lahur Talabany discusses security issues with Britain’s Minister of Armed Forces James Heappey

PUK co-leader Lahur Talabany received on Wednesday Britain’s Minister of Armed Forces James Heappey and his accompanying delegation, led by Stephen Hickey, British Ambassador to Iraq, and James Thornton, Consul General of Britain in Kurdistan Region.

During the meeting, improvement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the British government, the political, economic, and security developments between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed.

PUK co-chair appreciated the British government for its role in fighting ISIS and supporting the Peshmerga forces, in terms of training, aid, and the field of reforms and unification of the Peshmerga forces.

He then reiterated on his support for the unification of the Peshmerga forces, and stressed that this issue should not be unilateral and that it should be done with the participation of all, with taking into account the principle of balance. 

Moreover, Talabany referred to the constant threats of ISIS sleeper cells and the importance of the presence of the international coalition forces along with the discussion of the issue of early elections in Iraq and stressed the need for complete coordination between the political parties to pave the way for establishing security and stability for the sake of the success of the elections.
