Bafel Talabani receives James F. Jeffrey, discussing political and security issues in the region

PUK co-leader, Bafel Talabani, received James Franklin Jeffrey, United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement and the Special Envoy to the International military intervention against ISIL, at PUK political bureau in Erbil, on Tuesday Sep 22, 2020.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged ideas over the political, security and economic issues. Bafel Talabani clearly expressed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s strategy for the political and security situation of Kurdistan Region, Iraq, Syria, and the region. Reiterated on mutual cooperation, coordination and support for the sake of political stability in the region, but the Kurdish nation’s high interests must be preserved.
Regarding the outstanding issues between Kurdistan Region and Iraq, PUK co-leader emphasized on PUK’s wish to resolve the issues on the basis of constitution, reiterating that “PUK’s attempts focus on mutual and real partnership in which bilateral interests would be protected.”
Concerning the threats of ISIS and terrorist remnants, Bafel Talabani stressed on the necessity of more cooperation between Kurdistan Region and International Coalition, asking for increasing the supplies to Peshmarga forces in the fields of military aids and training, which would result in further stability and security.
Moreover, PUK co-leader reiterated on the continuation of U.S support, and developing bilateral ties at all levels.
For his part, Mr. James F. Jeffrey appreciated Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for their major support in the war against ISIS, and stressed on continuance of U.S aids for Peshmarga and other allied forces in Iraq and Syria.
