Deputy PM of KRG receives US ambassador Tueller, discussing the returning of Peshmarga to Kerkuk

On Monday, Sep 14, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Qubad Talabani met up with US ambassador to Iraq and US Consul General to Kurdistan Region, Matthew H. Tueller.

During the meeting, Qubad Talabani, as head of KRG delegation for negotiation with Baghdad, discussed the developments in the dialogue between Erbil and federal government, and the situation of the disputes areas, with Tueller.

In another aspect of the meeting, the US aids to Iraq and Kurdistan Region, and the coronavirus pandemic were also addressed.

Deputy PM of Kurdistan Region reiterated on KRG's attitude for returning Peshmarga forces to Kerkuk, especially to K1 military base, and he asserted that in the dialogues with Baghdad, he had told Iraqi government officials that Peshmarga forces are necessary to support and participate in the provision of security and stability in those areas.

He also added, "Both sides are now talking over a suitable mechanism to return Peshmarga to Kerkuk."
